Picking the Right Digital Camera
Choosing the right digital camera for your needs is an significant decision. The good news is there are so many great cameras at reasonable prices.
I think there are basically three types of people when it comes to picking the right digital camera.
1. The Snapshot Photographer- Only wants a camera to take photos of family and friends, vacation photos etc.
2. The Artistic Photographer- This type of person wants to take beautiful photos and needs full authority over the camera.
3. The Aspiring Artist- This person is basically a snapshot taker, but would like to be more and on occasion will try to get a photo that is above the typical.
I also believe that there are more of type three, than the other two. For very good reason I might add. We live in a great time for photography. Digital cameras today are very high resolution, with tons of features, and yet are very inexpensiver. And who doesnt love take a photo that others rave about ?
The resolution of todays cameras are very high. There is no need to buy a camera under ten megapixel these days. To put your mind at ease, it really doesnt make much difference if you pick a 12 megapixel camera, or a 14 megapixel camera. There is no discernable difference in photos. Any camera ten megapixel or over is capable of very large prints, much larger than 11 x 17.
One consideration is size. If you prefer to have a very slim digital camera that you can put in your pocket or handbag, you should investigate those models. If you are a type one photographer and are looking for a slim digital camera, you have narrowed down the choices significantly. Just look for a slim digital camera, 10 megapixel or higher.
If you are a type two photographer, you are looking for a digital SLR. Only the SLR will give you the power to change lens, and have complete control over the aperture and shutter.
If you are the third type, there are far more choices. First of all you could try going for a digital SLR to get all the control you need. However, if you are not that critical there are many middle of the road digitals that have all in one zoom lens and do offer some control over the shutter and aperture. Cameras of this type however will not be ultra compact. Cameras like this will be compact, but a bit bulky. They may fit in your jacket pocket, but certainly not in a handbag.
As far as the brand of camera, that is a matter of taste. They do have slight differences in color and contrast. The best way to determine this is to look at galleries of photos. You may notice that you like photos by Canon better than Nikon. Then you can look for your perfect digital from the groups above.
Whichever type you are, you can be assured that you will find an amazing camera that gives you pleasure for many years to come.
