Weddings: Do Your Feet a Favour and Make the Right Choice in Shoes

Weddings can be an emotional affair, whether as the bride, the groom or one of the guests, it can be daunting. It is important to make it as easy as possible. One thing that can help you to make sure it all runs smoothly is to wear the right outfit, and most importantly, wear the right shoes. Shoes are often neglected when it comes to weddings, sure, people take a lot of time over choosing a particular style, but they pay little attention to numerous other factors, and this is to their detriment. There are many things to take into consideration when choosing your wedding shoes, and we will take a closer look at these below.

Heels or Flats?

Everybody wants to look their best at a wedding – especially the bride; and for women, nothing helps more than slimming the silhouette and elongating the legs. This is the role of heels: they are slimming and they add height. However, they are not necessarily a good idea for wedding goers and they can cause several problems.

  • As a bride, stilettos heels are quite dangerous: women can trip over their wedding dresses, and if you are unused to heel, then the risk is heightened. Wedges will minimise the risk of falling, so they do make great bridal shoes. The majority of brides opt for a kitten heel as these are relatively safe and remain sophisticated.
  • As a wedding guest, it is important that you do now ‘show up’ the bride. Remember that they will probably wear flats, wedges or kitten heels. Therefore, avoid stilettos, because you may be creating problems between yourself and your friend/relative.

Another problem with wearing heels to a wedding is discomfort. You are likely to be on your feet for much of the day – particularly if you are the bride. It is better to wear shoes in which you will feel comfortable all day, and in which you can dance. Many brides choose to change their shoes after the official ceremony, so that they can enjoy the evening do in comfort. As a bride, then, it is good to select two different pairs of wedding shoes: one for pretties and one for comfort.

Hot Feet

Most weddings happen in the summer months, and if you are fortunate enough, the day is likely to be sunny. During the course of a hot day, your feet will swell with the heat – shoes that may be comfortable in the morning, may be uncomfortably tight by the evening.

To avoid this problem buy your shoes in an afternoon, so that when you try them on your feet are already swollen.

A great way to reduce swelling is to choose a pair of open-toe shoes, so if you are going to a summer wedding, opt for these.

Straps?

Strappy shoes tend to be more elegant, and so make the perfect choice for weddings. However, they also tend to rub a fair bit, and so may become uncomfortable. To avoid this, choose open-back shoes – these will look elegant, but avoid any rubbing. Alternatively, make sure that you wear blister pads, to avoid any pain.
