Making Your Bathroom Appear Larger
Small bathrooms are hard to work with for the reason that, well, they are small. There isn’t much to work with from the start. Nevertheless, there are some things that you could do to make them more cozy and look more spacey. Take a look at these following tips.
Paint your walls with white or soft hued colors. Simply put, darker paints make rooms appear more enclosed. Light is unable to travel efficiently, making the boundaries of the room appear nearer than they truly are. When you use pastel paints, you allow light to reflect off the walls and travel further, increasing the visible area. You can never go wrong with all your walls painted white. However if you would like some color, I highly recommend that you leave one wall white, namely the one furthest from the door. It will also help to place white porcelain tiles. The porcelain will be able to help reflect even more light.
Afterwards, you should install a smaller sink arrangement. One way to do this is by installing a sink that takes up not more than two by two by four feet. This will only leave space for your sink bowl and a few toiletries. You will want to store your toiletries in your medicine cabinet or sink cabinet. One other method is to install a thin, long sink cabinet that spans the whole length of the wall. This way, you could lay out your toiletries on top your counter, producing the illusion of space. You’ll even have extra storage space below when you need it. One last idea about the sink area, consider installing a wall mounted faucet assembly so that you could get everything as nearest to the perimeter as possible.
If you don’t usually use the medicine cabinet, swap it out with a large, thin mirror. If possible, install one other large mirror on the opposite or adjacent wall. This will create the illusion that your bathroom is bigger than it truly is.
If your bathroom is like the typical type, your shower has a shower curtain or sliding frosted glass doors. I recommend installing a frameless clear glass shower stall. The non framed construction gets rid of lots of clutter and bulk, and the glass allows light to travel throughout. If you still want to keep the shower curtain arrangement, leave your curtain open when you are not using the shower, however it will probably cause mildew to grow on it faster.
