Ranchi – Capital City of Jharkhand
Ranchi is a beautiful place and also known for beautiful water falls and scenic lakes. It is the capital city of Jharkhand. The city is a prominent city and served a vital role in the Jharkhand movement. The word Ranchi is derived from Archi, an Oraon village. Archi is a Oraon word which means bamboo grove or stave. This is an old city and before it was known as Lohardaga. The place became prominent since 1831. In 1899 the name was changed and this city got a new identity as Ranchi. The city and its neighboring places are dominated by the Munda and Oraon Tribes and it was also marked as ‘forest territory’. The place was ruled by Jarasandh, the mighty emperor of Rajgriha and it is mentioned in the epic Mahabharata. Hundru fall is an another well visited and famous tourist spot which is formed with Subarnarekha River. The falls offers a mesmerizing view to the tourist as the water flow falls from a height of 320 feet. “Jonha Falls” is marked as one of the most attractions of this place. It is known as Gautamdhara. The place is 40 km far from Ranchi and it boasts an old Buddha temple and allures a good number of tourists. The place got an additional beauty with the presence of Kanchi river. Panch Gagh falls is well noted as it is formed with five streams with the division of Banai river. The place is located 6km far from the place named Kunti on the Ranchi- Chakradharpur Road. Hirni falls is a visit worthy spot located in a beautiful place amidst forests with a distance of 70 km far from Ranchi. Sita fall is well accessible as it is located next to Jonha falls. Ranchi Hill and Pahari Mandir, Sun Temple, Jagannathpur Temple, Devri Temple and Angrabari (Amreshwar Dham) are some most religious places in and around the Ranchi. Among them Ranchi Hill and Pahari Mandir is considered as one of the landmark of Ranchi Town. The sun temple is also well noted for its imposing architectures. The temple is structured like a Chariot with 18 wheels and carried by 7 horses.
