Rameshwaram is a popular temple town that lies in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. Situated at the tip of Indian peninsula in the Gulf of Mannar, Rameshwaram is one of the most frequented pilgrimage destinations in South India.
The Rameshwaram Island (Pamban Island) comprising the town of Rameshwaram, separated from the mainland of India by the Pamban Channel, is connected by 2.3 km long Pamban Bridge. Olaikuda beach, situated about 1 km away from Rameshwaram temple, is surrounded by coral reefs and is a popular spot for scuba diving. During your visit to Rameshwaram, you can also indulge in shopping as you can find here excellent decorative pieces made of sea shells, beads, palm leafs, etc.
Rameshwaram tourism also offers you trips to nearby destinations such as Erwadi, Uthirakosamangai, Kanchirankullam water bird sanctuary and Valinokkam. Bird-watchers mostly visit the sanctuary at Kanchirankullam, situated 35 km away from Rameshwaram, during the migrating season from November – February.
