The Origin of Honeymoon
With the fashion of honeymoon goes around in the world, more and more people join in this line. Usually it costs people one month. But do you know its derivation? Have you think about why people persue that? Does it have some special deep meaning? Along with these questions, I’d like to show you the reason.
Unexpectedly, the honeymoon appears earlier than wedding. In ancient times, if a man wants a girl to be his only beloved one, he may take her away from her home secretly. Then, both them will hide to avoid their family finding them, till the girl’s family giving up. Usually, it will cost a month for the girl’s parents to find them. This is where the letter”moon” of the word “honeymoon” comes from. This coincides the turkey wedding custom. The robbed marriage still exist in turkey.
Honey refers to the mead, a drink that the newlywed would take everyday the first month they were together. This kind of wine is made up of mead and water with sunshine. According to the story, the newlywed would have lots of children if they drink this wine first month they married. Therefore, this tradition comes down.
Nowadays, the honeymoon comes along the wedding. It keeps that the newlywed have their sweet together time without disturbing and relax themselves after a busy wedding. Today, this holiday means they can go to a romantic beach or a remote beautiful island to feast their honeymoon according with the ancient times. The honeymoon symbolizes a brand new beginning of life. Also it is a period worthy forever remembering. Its importance goes without saying.
However, etymologist denied that. The orthodox etymologist do not think honeymoon refers to the first month after wedding ceremony. Although “honey” point to the happiness of the wedding sweet, the “moon” refers to the phase of the moon. This bitter hints warn people that marriage is sweet, but it is temporary, just like the moon. Marriage means a lot of burden of life, the ups and downs that couples should bear.
The story is popular. I do think the etymologist explanation is very accurate. The honeymoon is sweet and happy, with no annoying things. But since then, both two of the newlywed have to take on the suffering or any other unfortunates happened in their life together.
Bridal dress is more convenient and suitable. However, wedding dress is more formal and ceremonious. Each one has its distinctive features. Choose one you like.
