The festival celebrates and commemorates the victory of the great Goddess Durga, after she slew the demon, Mahishasura, and thereby, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil according to Hindu mythology. Some call her Chamundeshwari.
On the bank of the Kaveri River a small village somnathpur is located where Kesava Temple is attracting hundreds of people every day. Kesava temple was built by the Hoysala general Somnatha in 1268. It is also known as Somnathpur Temple and it’s dedicated to Lord Kesava (Krishna). This star shaped of architecture is built on a Board platform with beautiful curving on the outer side of the wall.
