Want to know the history of Cannondale mountain bikes?
Mountain biking is very different from road cycling in terms of changing road conditions and endurance levels. A mountain biker often encounters extreme trails with rocks, exposed tree roots and gravel. One needs a lightweight, strong built and flexible bike to cover such difficult paths. One of the most trusted and tested brand names in this category is of Cannondale mountain bikes. These bikes are designed and developed by passionate people of an expert company who knows everything about biking. These bikes are known for superior quality and high–end technical specifications for facing difficult road conditions uphill.
Cannondale began its journey as a small camping equipment company in Connecticut in the 1970s. Its first bike model was launched in 1983 with an aluminum frame and over-sized tubing for increased stiffness and efficiency. It was one of the most lightweight frames as compared to the frames of other standard cycles in the same category in that era. The company’s motto of the 90s, “Speed is our friend” has meaning on several levels. This company is known for producing the fastest and strongest bicycles in the world. From the beginning since 19771, when it introduced the first bicycle trailer, the company has grown to a level where at 2003 it was able to offer five ATV’s and six motorcycle models of its own. Its products like more than 80 models are sold in 60 countries across the globe. The first road and mountain bike from the company included strong frame and the fork. The fork was steel made with helical reinforcement ribs inside the steel tube. This frame was appreciated and instantly became popular with bikers for its over-sized down tube and enlarged head tube construction.
After many years in 2004, the company launched Cannondale Six13, a composite carbon and alloy frame with alloy head tube, staysets and bottom bracket junction, which is bonded to carbon built seat, down and top tubes. This was the first use of structural carbon composite material and subsequent variants of the mountain bikes of the company. Current Cannondale mountain bike manufactured series include Flash 29er Carbon, Flash 29er, Trail SL 29er, Flash (Hardtail), Scalpel (Full Suspension), Scarlet (Over mountain, women’s only), etc. It has sponsored some of the top professional cycling teams and events in the past. It has also won many design awards like the ‘Publisher’s Award for Innovation” from Bicycling magazine, “Technological Development of the year Award” from VeloNews Magazines and “Best New Products of the Year Award” from Business Week.
