An As Built Drawing is the drawing or drawings produced at the end of a construction project. They are the final drawings made from any project. Included in an As Built Drawing are any changes, differences or modifications that have been made since the beginning of the project, including notes. As built drawings are an ongoing and continual project throughout the building process.
As Built drawings are made from the original construction drawings, and they are modified and revamped each time a change is made to the project. Builders will start with the original construction drawings and then if there is any need for changes, they will be added on as they go. This ensures that each change is documented and that the finished set of drawings properly reflects the project. It is imperative that all changes are documented on the as built drawings.
Usually, the builder keeps track of the As Built drawings, but in really large projects, each department, such as electrical, plumbing, etc. can maintain their own as built drawings. This keeps each department moving on schedule, without having to wait to receive the one set of plans. At the end of the project, each As Built drawing will be integrated into one final drawing.
