Srinagar is situated in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar is probably the most beautiful places in India. With its beautiful gardens, pristine lakes, snow capped mountains and the iconic house boats, Srinagar was once called the ‘paradise on earth’.

The more modern Tulip Gardens in Srinagar also attracts many tourists. These gardens have beautifully laid out manicured gardens, with vibrant flowerbeds, terraced lawns and long stretches of channels with cascading fountains.
Shankaracharya Temple is an ancient shrine located on the Shankaracharya Hill in Srinagar. Built by Jaluka, the son of Emperor Ashoka around 200 BC, this temple offers splendid views of the valley and the snow clad mountains of the Pir Panjal range. Shankaracharya spent some time in this temple.
Some of the other religious places in and around Srinagar are the Hazrathalbal shrine where the sacred hair of the Prophet Mohammad is preserved, Khanqah-e-Molla the oldest Muslim shrine in Srinagar, Jama Masjid the biggest of all mosques in Kashmir and Imambara Hassanabad. Chatti Padshahi is an important Sikh Gurudwara near Srinagar.
Gulmarg and Sonamarg are two of the well known skiing destinations near Srinagar.
