The difference between them both is that category 6 is an updated version of the dated category 5 cable. It has an increased bandwidth of about 100 MHz over the older typed cables. Crosscables are often confused with that of cat 6 because they are similar in purpose, but they are not made of the same materials. Cross cables are utilized to avoid a port, and set up temporary networking from a direct standpoint. These cables usually pertain of fiber optics and use light pulses to transmit signals. Category 6 cables are made to act with wireless Ethernet adaptors, but require a hub. These are made out of copper.
