Rishikesh – The Window To Himalayas
Rishikesh, a town in Dehradun city in Uttarakhand, is a picturesque and a religious town. It is a holy city on the banks of Ganga and is at a distance of 25 km from Haridwar. There are several ashrams in this town, the most famous being the Shivananda Ashram established by Swami Sivananda. People throng the place in several numbers to visit the Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula and to witness the Aarthi performed for the Ganga at the Triveni Ghat. It is believed that the Lakshman Jhula was a rope bridge constructed by Lakshmana when Lord Rama was performing a penance in Rishikesh. It has presently been replaced by a suspension bridge.
Rishikesh is an important rail link in Uttarakhand, and therefore, acts like the base station for the pilgrims who undertake the trip to Badrinath and Kedarnath. This place also acts like a link to the Chota Char Dham yatra of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. It is also known as the world centre for yoga in the world.
