Solan – the mushroom city
Solan is a beautiful city in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is just 50 km from the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla. It is known as the mushroom city of India because of the huge mushroom farming area available. The mushroom research Centre is also located here in Solan. It is also called the city of Red Gold because of the tomato cultivation and mass production in this area. It is said to be named after the Hindu goddess Shoolin Devi. Every year in the month of June a festival celebrating the goddess is held with great festivity. The Irish Mutiny of the year 1920 against the British Army took place here.
Endearing Little City
Solan Himachal Pradesh is an ideal place for holidaying. There are a lot of picnic spots in these areas. The apt places for picnickers are Karol Tibba and Meteol Tibba. You can find the Kotla Nullah just a kilometre away and it offers lovely shade spots. The running water in the stream is a treat to watch, Saproon spring and the happy valley are other two places where you can stroll through the nice smelling pines.
Mareog, Gaura and Karkanu are the places through which River Giri flows. These places are within the radius of 20 km and are on the motorable roads. Angling is one activity which you can enjoy in the river here. The river here is well stocked with fish of different varieties and you can do some serious angling here.
The agriculture college in Himachal Pradesh is situated in Solan Himachal Pradesh. The Agriculture Research Institute is also situated in Solan. Solan is situated at an elevation of 1467 meters above sea level and is bounded by high peaks. It is mostly a forested land and that makes it not suitable for building activities. It is also the gateway to other popular hill stations like Kasauli, Dagshai, Kandaghat and Chail.
