If you ever wanted to be a dentist but worried that they are not the real doctors or maybe there isn’t a real need for dental jobs, you couldn’t be further from the truth. There is an acute shortage of qualified dentists all over the world.
Staffing companies can be viewed as a type of clearing house for open positions. Jobs come in, get filled and are replaced with other jobs. The number of openings an agency has at any one time will depend on the effectiveness of the staffing company’s sales efforts. Top staffing agencies will have open positions you won’t find elsewhere.
When the economy is struggling job seekers are tempted to accept jobs that are not good matches. While the mindset is understandable, this behavior is self defeating because it often leads to a downward spiral of job hopping. It’s much better to find contract or temporary work so you can pay the bills while holding out for a position that’s in line with your career goals.
General Dental Practice- This is a self-employment career option. You are not under contract with anyone. You can start your own ‘high-street’ dental practice. Now because is there is a shortage of dentists in UK and NHS can’t recruit all the graduates, you will be contracted by NHS to treat patients on their behalf. There are different payment arrangements but rest assured every NHS patient you treat you’ll get paid for. So, basically it’s the best of both worlds.
This is more of a strategic position and involves assessment of public dental health on a population level rather than an individual level. It’s a non-clinical job. You can be asked to work with universities and department of Health directly.
Hospital Dental Care- This is a specialized service and not normally available for general public. As a hospital dentist you are responsible for in-hospital patients. You can also be consulted for difficult cases referred to the hospital from outside. You’ll only be working as part of a team handling complex dental jobs on day to day basis.
