Boston Whaler is a famous company that has been there in marine industry since 1958. They are famous for making quality boats that are well designed and long lasting. Currently there are very less amount of boats all made by Boston Whaler and the ones that are there at present are treasured by people.
During the 50th anniversary celebrations of Boston whaler the fans were planning to something very special indeed. The company decided to createcopies of their original boats and tried to get as near as possible to the original. They didn’t want just a die cast model but wanted to get a detailed data. They contacted EMS rapid prototyping for this job as they were specialist in 3D printing. They briefed them for creating a well-designed model that was detailed and proved to be a real performer for the collectors. EMS initiated by designing a boat among their original boats that were in good condition. These boats were revolutionary during their time and copying them was not easy. It had a unique hull that was filled with foam and made their boats unsinkable.
The original one was scanned by EMS to create one CAD model in the computer. It had all the details of the boat right from the benches to the steering wheel. Then 3D printing technology was used to make them similar to their original color and the equipment made by ZCorp had been used. Z Printer is among the best in its range and creates great copies of the initial design. Z Printer prints the original copy of the object and uses whole powder making sure that there wastage in the powder is kept to the minimal levels. Unused powder could be used again by taking out unused pieces from the machine.
EMS had made two thousand copies out of its limited edition model of the Boston Whaler. 3D printing proved as the ideal choice for the purpose as it could perfectly print even the smallest runs. It took EMS two weeks to complete the whole task. It proved to be very easy for them to take the boat, scan it and take out the print outs. The result was as similar as expected and more than the expectation of the people. The ZPrinter printed at good speed and it was running around the clock to take out 2000 copies. One could not even find a single mistake and all the snaps were collected by all the fans on 50th anniversary celebrations.
