Air Arabia: Keeping the Momentum Going!
If the first five years of Air Arabia were impressive, the next five years were even better in every way. The first five years since the inception of the airline in 2003 saw the airline expanding its operations to many cities in Asia.
India was particularly well connected with many cities such as Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kozhikode, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Kochi, Nagpur, and Thiruvanathapuram being well connected to Sharjah through low cost Air Arabia flights. These low fares especially helped many workers from the subcontinent to travel to Sharjah in search of better paying work opportunities and also gave the United Arab Emirates a considerably efficient workforce from India.
The airline was already well connected to important cities in Bahrain, Syria, Kuwait, Oman, Lebanon, Qatar, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Ukraine, and Kenya among others. The following years proved to be even more fruitful for the airline after it began operations in the two new hubs of Casablanca in Morocco and Alexandria in Egypt.
The year 2009 was an important year for Air Arabia on the operational front. The airline in the month of April saw its operations taking off at the new hub in Casablanca and this meant that new cities were now reachable without overloading their hub in Sharjah. Casablanca proved to be a great asset and in the very first year of the hub’s operations, flights were launched to London in the United Kingdom, Marseille, Lyon, and Paris in France, Brussels in Belgium, Milan, Bologna, and Venice in Italy, Barcelona in Spain, Istanbul in Turkey, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The year also saw more flights being added to the Sharjah hub with destinations such as Goa in India, Athens in Greece, Medina in Saudi Arabia, and Samara in Russia being part of the airline’s operations.
In the year 2010, operations began at another hub of Air Arabia, this time in Alexandria, Egypt. The new hub saw flights being launched to Khartoum in Sudan, Kuwait, Amman in Jordan, Beirut in Lebanon, and Abu Dhabi in the UAE. The year also saw flights taking off from Casablanca to the new destinations of Montpellier in France, Malaga in Spain, Cologne in Germany, and of course flights between the two hubs of Alexandria and Casablanca.
Today, there are many cities that have been added to the ever growing destinations list of Air Arabia. These include Basel, Donetsk, Fez, Kharkiv, Latakya, Madrid, Marrakech, Nador, Najaf, Palma Majorca, Yanbu, Yekaterinburg, and Kazan.
Air Arabia is today a successful airline not only in terms of the tremendous growth it has achieved on the operational front but also as an airline that is one of the leaders in the low cost carrier segment in Asia and the Middle East.
