Google’s Hypocrisy And Ego
Webmasters mourn as they watch their websites slide down the Google search results listing with each new algorithm update. The Google Penguin and Panda have many shaking with fear with concerns that all their hard-earned visitors will be lost. Google does not seem to see it this way; they do not see these webmasters has hard-working. However, anyone that has ever tried to get traffic to a webpage knows that it is not always an easy feat. Somehow Google calls itself justified in its actions to punish endless numbers of webmasters, yet it is easy to disagree with this online giant.
Google’s algorithm updates have attacked the link building activities of many webmasters. This has resulted in all their hardwork and money going to waste. Google is against links that have been bought or are so-called ‘unnatural’. The irony has to be that Google is the very master of selling links. Has anyone forgotten about the whole AdWords deal? What is this but yet another way of selling links? It seems odd that Google bans link selling when its whole business model is based on link selling. In fact, Google receives vast amounts of wealth each year from advertisers paying for links.
Even though Google puts so much negative weight on unnatural and purchased links (that were not purchased from them) they do nothing to protect the website owner whose competition uses the knowledge of Google penalties to do them harm. Just about anyone can buy links or create spammy links and point them to any site as long as they have the money and the know-how. Want to get rid of higher ranking competition? Just submit their site URL to a load of FFA sites! Google plays right into the hands of these schemes by penalizing innocent website owners even though these links were built outside of their control.
The numerous problems that Google has served to create for webmasters have them going through some ridiculous extremes to try and recover from the algorithm updates. Google has caused them to do some things they never thought they would have to do like contacting the owners of every site where they have a backlink and request its removal. Some websites have generated a considerable amount of links not only from the efforts of the webmaster but from visitors who reference the site. Webmasters who, thanks to Google, find they need to get the links removed have to spend hours tracking the ownership of other sites and sending emails and phone messages requesting a link removal.
Google claims that its actions are in the best interest of both the searchers and the ‘honest’ webmasters, but many users cannot see any improvement in the search results they get. There is still irrelevant information popping up for keywords while valid and useful sites are pushed so far down the listing that they are near impossible to find. Just because a website has a lot of links from low ranking sites does not mean the content is useless to the person performing a search. It seems that Google has become drunk with power and is worried more about its online dominance and authority than with being fair.
