The point of chatting online
Skype, chatbazaar, benaughty, chat-buddy… the ways to chat online can start to seem endless. But what’s the point? There’s loads of great uses for the internet – catching up on news, emailing, looking at friend’s photos on facebook, watching movies – but is chat really one of them?
There are two things to remember right from the start: that you don’t have to be nervous, and that you need to have an open mind. That you can be way more confident and open than in the real world is, of course, why so many people are turning to online chat. Whether it’s one-on-one or in a group, people can let their inhibitions and their insecurities go – a lot of the time people can be more like themselves when they’re behind a computer screen than they can out there in the real world. Add to this the sense of unreality that the online sphere holds and the excitement of being in touch with a whole load of new people, and you start to see how chat can get pretty wild (and sometimes even a bit steamy), on the internet.
There are a lot of people out there to do some serious flirting, that’s for sure, and there are plenty of websites specifically catered to their needs. Whether people chat online in order to get to know someone and maybe date them, or whether the online chat itself is the date and they’re happy to stay in the comfort of the internet world, there’s a lot of scope for the romantically minded. And, with the advent of the webcam, many people find plenty to entertain themselves with.
But that’s not all there is on offer – there are opportunities for those people on the net who want to connect with others all around the world but want to keep it innocent. After all, it has never been so easy to chat to someone from thousands of miles away, and lots of people want to take the chance to find out about the world from behind their keyboards. Online chat could have been invented for them. There’s chatting for niche interests too – fancy talking about your latest movie obsession, or your hobby? A quick search and you could be discussing the finer details with loads of other people from across the globe. There’s even a site where kids can chat to Santa Claus.
Online chat has plenty to offer. Yes, there is the flirty adult world, and there are plenty of people who enjoy taking part in that. But chatting online is also a way to connect with people in far-flung places about anything you like. It’s a huge opportunity.
