Moving? Hold a Virtual Garage Sale
One of the best parts about moving is the chance to weed your life of items you no longer need or use. Moving is a perfect opportunity to sort through your belongings and decide what you want to keep, what you want to throw away, what you want to donate and what you want to sell. This last category is the most exciting prospect of the four sorting classifications. This is because you might be able to make some money during this process instead of paying out money as you do during every other part of the moving process.
Most people who decide to move choose to have a garage sale before the movers show up to load up the belongings they are keeping. This is a great idea, especially if you are moving in the late spring, summer and early fall. The weather is usually nice during these times, making it ideal for holding an outside sale. There are hoards of people who love going to garage sales and if you have items that are still useable and maybe even valuable, you could make a nice sum of cash in a weekend.
Unfortunately, not everyone is able to plan their move for these times of the year. There are always moves occurring in the dead of winter, when a typical garage sale is not a good idea. When faced with this reality, many homeowners either go ahead and let the movers move the items they no longer need or want, costing them a small fortune. This is because moving companies usually charge by weight and the more things you use, the more you will pay.
Another option to moving everything, though, is to hold a virtual garage sale instead. This is actually a great idea even if you are moving during the summer. You don’t have to get your home all set up for a garage sale, you don’t have to waste an entire weekend waiting for strangers to show up at your house and haggle with you over a quarter and you don’t have to worry about people stealing your items when you’re not looking.
There are many online auction sites that can handle your virtual garage sale, so it’s just a matter of researching them and finding the one that offers the options and format you are looking for. Just be sure to plan the online selling of your items several weeks before moving day arrives. You don’t want to be trying to handle the sale and the move at the same time.
