Scrubs – Standing Out In Your Nursing Scrubs

Does the idea of wearing plain boring old scrubs every day bother you? Unless you are required to wear a certain type of scrubs every day by your employer this should never be a problem as there are so many types, styles and colors of nursing scrubs that you should never look the same as every other nurse nor should you have cause to get bored by the scrubs you wear. If you find that your uniform store only carries a limited number of styles then perhaps it is time to start branching out to find the scrubs that will help you stand out and feel good about yourself.

In days gone by scrubs were boring affairs offered in a limited amount of plain solid colors, this had a tendency to make the hospital setting depressing and too institutionalized. Administrators found by brightening the atmosphere that patients felt less anxious about their stays in the hospital which in turn improved recovery times for those patients. In addition to brightening the hospital surroundings, hospital staff was encouraged to find and wear a larger assortment of scrubs in different colors. This helped to put patients more at ease and offer them a better experience with the staff and hospital.

Fortunately for staff it also gave them the opportunity to stand out a bit more, no longer do nurses all need to look the same in identical white or blues scrubs. Now nurses and other medical employees have the freedom to choose from a variety of different colors, styles, designs and by doing so it allows nurses to let their personalities shine and gives them back that individualism that same colored scrubs can so easily take away. Keep in mind that some medical facilities do still require uniforms that are all the same, but if you are fortunate enough to work for one that does give you that freedom, be sure to take advantage of it.

There are so many different options it can often be hard to decide just what suits you and your personality. For many nurses it is a favorite flower, color or cartoon character, for others it may be a design, or simply the intensity of color of the scrubs they like to wear. For example one hospital employee may look good in and enjoy wearing soft pastel colors. Soothing and relaxing this can be a great choice for nurseries, intensive care wards, and anywhere where soothing soft colors can help to calm and release tensions.

Bright colors and cartoon characters are a favorite in pediatric facilities and in general family practices where their favorite cartoons can help to distract small children that might otherwise be upset about going to the doctor’s office. Flowers and pretty patterns are a great choice for facilities that may specialize in women’s health care or the elderly. Whichever choices you decide to make for scrubs keep in mind that they should make you feel good as well, the more happy and relaxed you are with what you  are wearing and how you look the better your patients will feel as well.
