Can Electronic Cigarettes Help You Quit?
Ask any smoker that has exhausted the ever growing sea of smoker’s cessation products if an electronic cigarette might help them quit and the answer is an exuberated yes!
The controversy behind the electronic cigarette is the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) believing that since there is liquid nicotine in electronic cigarettes and it is a device, it should be the jurisdiction of the FDA to regulate them as they do other smoke cessation products. The American Cancer Society, Lung Association, Heart Association and the Tobacco-Free Kids Campaign have joined forces to call a cease to the selling of electronic cigarettes under the presumption they have not been proven safe and that some of the flavor enhancers as chocolate or strawberry may lure kids to use the product.
The act of smoking cigarettes was made fashionable on bill boards, Television, radio commercials and signage for decades without concern of the harmful effect the product would have on consumers and those around them. There was certainly no remorse by the manufacturers for the products addictive nature and smokers have had little, if any, empathy when trying to combat their addiction to the cigarette. With recent bans the smoker has actually become a societal outcast.
Pills, potions, gums, lozenges and patches pose more of a health threat to the smoker than an electronic cigarette because such products only address the nicotine portion of the addiction and not the habit of the act itself which leads the smoker to the extreme danger of using both.
A cigarette contains many harmful chemicals and because it has a combustion element and actual smoke those super heated chemicals are subject to change toxicity levels for the worse for both smoker and those around the smoking environment.
Smoker’s Prison of Electronic Cigarettes?
Maybe the answer is to build smoker’s prisons across the globe with padded walls and a locked door to incarcerate all the smokers to be rounded up and sentenced to a term for their environmental crime. Building smokers prisons is about the rational ability the regulating forces have in dealing with the issue of smoking and a good share of the reason the economy is in its current state.
The Electronic cigarette poses no threat to the environment, to those in the environment of its use and certainly poses less harm to the smoker than cigarettes. The electronic cigarette does not cost the government or tax payers so it does not promote a threatening deduction to the fragile economy but rather boosts the economy with supply and demand.
The electronic cigarette does pose a grave threat to the tobacco industry’s bottom line but the issue was inevitable anyway with more and more smoking bans.
Why The Electronic Cigarette Can Help You Quit
Understanding the smoking habit of its many facets can better have you understanding the success of electronic cigarettes. There are two main components of smoking, literal addiction and habit. The best way to dissolve an addiction to nicotine is gradually which has been addressed by the majority of smoking cessation products. What has not been addressed by any cessation products beyond the electronic cigarettes is the habit component.
Take for instance a coffee drinker. How well do you think a coffee drinker will adjust to having a caffeine patch in the morning when coffee, the act of sipping, the taste, the hand and eye involvement and the conversation that accompanied it has been the start of the day for years?
A caffeine patch and a hot drink that tasted like coffee, looks like coffee and required the same body movement would help the coffee addict quit the caffeine habit. Caffeine addiction doesn’t hurt anyone but the addicted but cigarette smoking hurts the addicted and those around them so wouldn’t it be beneficial to address all the issues of smoking addiction and habit to help smokers realize success and quit?
The smoking habit component has several factors to its longevity and deep rooted dependence. The holding and lighting of the cigarette, the sucking of the smoke into the lungs, the feel of exhaling the smoke out, the flickering of ash and the actual extinguishing of the cigarettes are all physical components. The time it takes to smoke a cigarette and the time chosen to smoke can be deep seeded to mind as an emotional crutch, a de-stressor, a creative association or something to do for fidgety hands during thinking or conversing.
All these components of the smoking addiction can be addressed for success with an Electronic Cigarette.
