Levinger-Regens Hires New Global Head of Agricultural Products
(1888PressRelease) – As declining prices help to upend the ranks of top agricultural traders, Levinger-Regens is expanding into cotton trading and targeting growth in sugar, cereals, and other farm products.
Levinger Regens, an established financial advisory and strategic consultancy services provider with deep market knowledge, a dynamic network of information, and derivatives solutions, today announced that it has hired Kym Young-ja, formerly head of cotton trading for a top Chinese commodity trader, to lead the agricultural department. The company plans to add at least five more employees to the department.
“We are looking for areas to grow our company and the agricultural space fits a lot of the characteristics of what we are already doing”, said Keem T. Eun-jae, Chief Executive Officer for Levinger Regens. “It is a natural extension to our existing business.”
The company is looking to expand even as bumper crops for grains and other products have driven down prices, complicating life for traders who depend on volatility to notch up big profits.
“Levinger Regens has not invested mostly in physical assets and operations, unlike more established crop-trading firms, leaving it with more capital to dedicate to trading. That has given the company an advantage in recruiting traders”, said Kym Young-ja, the company’s newly appointed Global Head of Agricultural Products.
“Many of Levinger Regens’ peers are still feeling the impacts of asset investments made at a different point in the cycle. Meanwhile, Levinger Regens is unburdened by such legacy assets”, commented Rie Eun-kyung, Global Head of Commodities.
Besides cotton, sugar, and grains, the company also sees opportunities to grow in oilseeds, feed ingredients, and ocean freight. “We still see an important merchant role in the cotton business, in connecting growers with some of the mills, and also potentially exporting cotton overseas”, added Mr. Kym Young-ja.
