The importance of link building for SEO.
Link building is king when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO). Gaining backlinks are fundamental if you want to make it to the top of the major search engines. Before we dive into link building in full it essential that we first understand the value of SEO
Why SEO is necessary.
It is common knowledge that SEO (search engine optimization) is the way forward these days. If you are top of the major search engines such as Google and Yahoo for your main keyword then traffic will come easy. Yes it is true that paid traffic is another option but with more and more advertisers online these days, it is only becoming more expensive. Google search engine is an example of this cost rising. It is becoming more and more expensive for the hot keyword phrases and competitive markets. Paid traffic is necessary but simultaneously the SEO.
Drawbacks in SEO ranking.
There are various factors, including on site page factors, domain name, title tags, keywords, speed of site, the directory goes on and on. Link building is the best and the most efficient means. At present there are two types of links, incoming links and outgoing links. We will concentrate on backlinks and the incoming links your site receives in this article.
What is backlink.
A backlink is generated when a website other than your own has a link (a hyperlink with your domain name in) directed back to your site. That would be one backlink. Now there are countless ways of gaining these incoming links, from writing on blogs to other people writing articles about you and linking back to you. It does not matter how the link is generated, however arguably the quality of the link is very important.
How to define a good quality good link.
If you have a link concentrating back to your site it will either be an anchor text link or a normal (naked) link. An anchor text means that a hyperlinks text will be different to the final destination of the link. So for example the hyper link could read “click here” but when you click on that you are directed to a website. The natural link will be where the hyperlink is not edited or preformatted with anchor text. But alternatively the hyperlinks text will be the full domain name URL and will link to that identical domain.
So which link is better?.
Well obviously this is dependent on several factors but the anchor text link will usually be more effective, only if the anchor text is related to the domain name. Key words has to be placed on the anchor text for more effectiveness. But natural links also have their place, and if all the backlinks to your site are anchor text links then search engines will get suspicious, so it is best to have a mix, usually 50/50 is a good ratio to stick to.
The quality of the link is also very dependent on where the link comes from. If it comes from a website that was set up today with simply one post on it, it will be seen as a lot poorer quality than a link coming from a 20 year old website with high page rank.
It is obvious from the content above that link building is not a small subject; there are hundreds of ways to get links, some good and some bad. The hard part is finding out the good ways and then doing them. This is where most people fall down, they either gain backlinks the bad way, or they don’t link the correct way enough.
