One of the most traditional gifts to give your mother on Mother’s Day is a fresh bouquet of flowers. Today sending flowers is even easy thanks to the many online options available. The following is a list of the most popular flowers to give your mother on Mother’s Day:
#1 Orchids
Orchids are a great flower for Mother’s Day because they tend to last longer then other flowers. Orchids linked to beauty, wealth, and luxury.
#2 Carnations
Carnations became the symbol for Mother’s Day when Anna Jarvis chose white ones as the emblem because it was her own mother’s favourite flower. Carnations come in a wide variety of colours and in general they express love, fascination and distinction each colour represents something different, pink is a way to say “I’ll never forget you”, while red is a way to show your admiration and white represents innocence and pure love.
#3 Foliage plants
My favourite type of flower to give on Mother’s Day is one that is actually alive. I always choose the potted plants option when sending flowers to my own Mother and a family favourite has become the Peace Lily or a Spathiphyllum. As probably already guessed, a Peace Lily symbolises peace and hope.
#4 Roses
Although widely known as a sign of romance, roses are also quite popular to send on Mother’s Day. Roses typically represent love, passion and perfection but because they come in many colours, each colour has its own special significance. Burgundy represents beauty within, while coral is for desire. An orange rose symbolizes fascination or to display of feeling of enthusiasm. Peach is for gratitude and admiration, while pink is a way to show happiness. Red roses are for love and passion, where white is for innocence and purity. And finally yellow roses are a way to show joy and friendship.
#5 Tulips
The tulip is the flower emblem of Holland and the original symbolism for tulips were associated with fame and perfect love. As the colours changed so did their meanings. Red tulips are a declaration of love, and yellow tulips can mean, “there’s sunshine in your smile”.
#6 Daisies
Daisies are a favourite to give on Mother’s Day and they symbolize purity, innocence, loyal love, beauty, patience and simplicity. In fact daisies are believed to be more than 4,000 years old and could very well have been the first Mother’s Day flower ever given. Daisies are also associated with the 5th wedding anniversary.
#7 Chrysanthemums
In general Chrysanthemums represent cheerfulness and joy, but like many other flowers each colour has its own meaning. Red Chrysanthemums are a sign of love, while white represents truth.
#8 Iris
The Iris is typically associated with the 25th wedding anniversary and can mean wisdom, faith, and hope. A white Iris is for purity and yellow ones are for passion.
#9 Lily
The symbolism most associated with white Lilies is a sign of purity and innocence, while orange Lilies can mean “I burn for you” and a yellow Lily can mean, “I’m walking on air”.
#10 Daffodils
The daffodil is the birth flower of March and is associated with the 10th wedding anniversary, but it can still make a great Mother’s Day gift. Daffodils symbolize regard, rebirth, new beginnings, unrequited love, and eternal life.
