Ranca – City On The Mountain Peaks
At an elevation of 1600m in the Parang Mountains you can discover the Ranca resort. You can reach Ranca by car through the city Novaci on an 18 kilometer winding road that will certainly take your breath away with its exceptional landscapes. From Novaci to Ranca you will be driving on the highest road in Romania, Transalpina, with the high point in Pasul Urdele at 2145 meters.
A tourist attraction in the winter but in the summer as well, Ranca is currently still in development. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy slopes on the Cornesu Mountain and the Parang Mountain, 1.5 kilometers on the first and 800 meters of intermediate to expert slope on the second option. The slopes on Cornesu are served by tele skis and the one on the Papusa Mountain is served by a chair lift. After the sunset on slope on the Cornesu Mountain is lit. There are plans to develop ten more slopes on the north side of the Papusa Mountain. In the summer Ranca is a departure point for various trekking trails in the Parang Mountains and further.
Taking you next to the peak of the Papusa Mountain, the chair lift will provide easy access to exceptional free-ride areas. Once you get off the chair lift you can choose whether you want a groomed slope or to climb higher up the mountain for some powder. Appropiate care is obligatory because the mountain is not avalanche controlled. Around the Papusa Peak you can find an excellent free-ride area with perfect powder maintained by the frecvent snowfall.
Peaks like Papusa, Urdele, Mohorul, Iezer are easily approachable in the summertime. You can reach the Papusa Peak after a 2 hour hike from Ranca. With a 10 minute drive from Ranca you can reach the Urdele peak, at 2145 meters. After the Urdele peak, if you want to reach the Iezer peak drive 5 more minutes and follow the trail that leads to Parangul Mare the the Galcescu Lace, it’s just an one hour hike and the views are breathtaking. From the Iezer peak, with just another hike time you can reach the Mohorul Peak, at 2337 meters it is an excelent place to view the surrounding Carpathian Mountains. You can see a selection of glacial and reservoir lakes in the Parang Mountains and they are al reachable hiking. The mountain peaks are just an example of tourist attractions, you can find monasteries, natural caves and gorges around Ranca. Ranca Mountain Resort will make its mark in the future with it’s great mountain peaks within hiking distance and great scenery from one side to the other.
With an altitude ranging from 1600 meters to 1800 meters Ranca is like a city developed on top of the world. Looking up at the mountain tops is great but what Ranca gives you is the view from a mountain top, which is different from other resorts. The surrounding mountain peaks: Urdele, Papusa, Mohorul, Parangul Mare offer a great view but you can also look at the rest of the Gorj county from Ranca. The Papusa Peak (2135 meters) is like a guardian to the Ranca resort.
