Internet is the connection and the interconnection of thousands of computers around the world. This means internet comprises of two words in one, which is international and networking. They have been shortened to inter for international and net for networking. Most of the international networking has been facilitated by telecommunications through satellites. But the trend is changing to fiber optics cables which are efficient and reliable.
As much as there are positive influences of the internet around the world, there are also negative ones. To my observation, the negative influences are directly proportional to the positive influences. This means that whenever there is a positive influence, there is a negative influence that is within or that comes with it. There are countless positive influences of the internet like people are able to save resources as they no longer incur travel expenses within a country or outside the country, they simply study online and there even exist virtual online libraries and universities. This is a very positive influence to many for developed countries or a few rich people in developing or underdeveloped countries. For the poor, still this remains an expensive venture. This very positive influence has a serious negative influence, and this is that people may not travel to other countries hence the cultural exchange will be obstructed. This will make people not to know and practice other cultures in the world.
Internet came about when need arose to share information. Internet has made sharing of information cheapest. Scientific experiments are timely and accurately done using computers and this can be shared all over the world within a very short time. These experiments, can be done in any country and people from anywhere in the world can share the know-how, observations and give a feed back easily and cheaply. But the concern is what kind of information is real shared? Is it one to benefit human kind or the one that destroys? Yes, we share information and exchange many things over the internet but many a people have again started misusing and abusing this good source of information. For instance, many are sending pornographic materials through the internet and this is even reaching young people aged 8 years. Some criminals have found a way of stealing money from unsuspecting bankers. Money transfer and online shopping have reduced many expenses associated with it but the services are in danger of being infiltrated by vandals.
Good minds dreamt of internet so that people of the world will share resources and information but a few smart but lost brains have decided to use internet as a vehicle of viruses and Trojans. When elegant minds come up with this good idea, few are now sabotaging this brilliant thought and they have developed programs that destroy other good programs and even killing computers.
