Slaves constructing culture and ethnic identity
Slavery holds a very old history in the different parts of America but mostly South America. If the history of slaves is traced back it goes back about 200 years back when these slaves were sent to the south part of the America for the reason that America was a healthy green land which was good for agriculture but man power was needed so that is how these slaves from Africa west Indies got to south America during the centuries of the Atlantic slave trade. From the beginning they were imported to South America where their number initially dropped due to a high mortality and low rate of childbirth or high infant mortality due to a lot of a factors. Initially when more slaves were dying there had to be more imported to keep their number up to the workload or demand. Once their mortality rate got stabilized and ultimately decreased they started occupying most part of the America. In the beginning there were 20% of the slaves living with almost 80% of white Americans in the South America and with time the number raised to an extent that out of ten American nine would be black. These black Americans had always faced with powerlessness, low quality life, and repression of their wishes and even physical and sexual needs but despite all that with time they gained the capability to make their self a culture and an identity. America talks about human rights a lot and may be that was something these slaves and their generations that had their birth in America and have had their childhood over there.
Their identity as a slave and the due treatment with them was accepted by the initial slaves that were imported to America but when they produced children who grew in America and had exposure to the freedom of voice and even some white Americans also raised voice for these slaves identity and that led to the whole system of rights for them. In America people that are self-made are valued a lot and when self made people want to create their identity never are never discouraged. Slaves had a good contribution to the slave holders and in fact their hard work and experience took their holders to a high social class and research has shown that most of the slave holders went to very high position in society but their economy was raised by the hard work and dedication of these slaves. This way the white American raised to a high position, which made it even more challenging for blacks to attend a valuable position, but they still tried for it. They regained their identity and made their self a different ethnic group living with white Americans and now they are called black Americans rather than slaves. Work on ethnicity and identity has shown that some slaves have written their bibliographies and even testimonials, which show that they have tried to imposter their self as white American.
