In Praise of Campbell Hotels
Boutique hotels are something else. They offer so much in terms of amenities that they can make up for a lack of national presence or prestige with quality. It’s the age-old toss-up of quality over quantity — and usually it works. For a number of Campbell hotels, that adage holds true. In fact, if you’re planning to stay in the Bay Area, specifically in the East or South Bay, you can really save money and enjoy superior service by booking a room in the suburb of Campbell.
While residents of Campbell would take umbrage at being called a suburb, so all intents and purposes, if it’s not the big four, they’re considered suburbs. What are the big four? San Francisco, of course, Oakland, Berkeley, and San Jose. Campbell, though located on the South Bay, is actually centrally located for engineers and entrepreneurs headed to the Silicon Valley.
Of course there are the obligatory chain hotels and motels to choose from. But why settle for canned heat when you can the real deal? Staying in the more boutique places, like the Larkspur Landing, can actually deliver more bang for the proverbial buck. By that I mean more personalized service, more amenities, and that certain something — call it the personal touch. I’m talking about the concierge calling you by your name when you breeze through the lobby.
You can see it in a movie like Grand Hotel — the staff cared for the guests and the guests were treated like royalty. This is what made the great hotels of yore so attractive. The guests were not just there to be drained of cash and good graces. No, the guests were supreme. That’s the kind of mentality that makes boutique hotels so appealing.
I think one of the reasons people opt for national chain hotels is accountability. There is a sad kind of reassurance that comes from giving your money to a multi-national company. But, the sad truth is that these multi-nationals are rather indifferent to your hard-earned dollars. Moreover, they are completely indifferent to your stay, unless, of course, your start tweeting or Facebooking your stay.
If you would like to book a room in any of the fine Campbell hotels online, make sure to do so sooner rather than later.
