(1888PressRelease) Weston Homes was crowned Housebuilder of the Year at the What House? Awards in association with www.whathouse.co.uk at a glittering ceremony in London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

Essex-based property developer Weston Homes has been crowned Housebuilder of the Year at the What House? Awards 2010. The company also secured a third successive Best Medium Housebuilder Gold award at the gala event, dubbed the Oscars of the housebuilding industry.

The What House? Awards judges said: “Weston Homes builds and designs very well; it shows boldness and initiative, it focuses on its customers and its staff. But this award goes beyond just product and performance and looks at leadership from the top downwards and a commitment to promoting the industry and standing up for new homes and better ways to get things done.” Weston was described as: “salt of the earth with a sprinkling of stardust.”

For the second year running, Berkeley Group won Gold for both the Best Large Housebuilder and the Best Sustainable Developer of the Year. Taking silver for Best Large Housebuilder were Redrow Homes, widely lauded for their innovative Redrow TV marketing tool and New Heritage Collection homes, and Bovis Homes, whose Perfect 10 mortgage initiative has helped numerous buyers purchase a new-build home with a 10% deposit and competitive interest rate.

Millwood Designer Homes fought off tough competition to secure the highest accolade in the Best Small Housebuilder category. Thames Valley Housing Association took Gold for the Best Large Housing Association.

Among the other prestigious awards handed out at the UK new homes industry’s premier event today were Best Development (a Gold for Manor Kingdom’s Kip Village in Inverkip), Best House (a Gold for Dene Terrace in Bromley, built by Urban Evolution), Best Starter Home (Dandara’s Image in Hemel Hempstead taking Gold) and Best Apartment Scheme (Gold for Urban Splash’s Mills Bakery in Plymouth).

Over 1,000 people attended the gala luncheon at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, once again introduced and overseen with his customary élan by whathouse.co.uk’s editorial director, Rupert Bates. He paid tribute to an exceptionally high standard of entries this year, saying:

“What really raises the spirits are some of the comments from the judges, with several claiming this year’s winners among the best new homes they have ever seen”.
