Calcium and Bodybuilding Supplements

In the blood vessels leading to and from the heart, deposits of calcium have been linked to blocked arteries. This, of course, greatly increases the risk of suffering from a heart attack or stroke. Many postmenopausal women have concerns that taking supplements to maintain bone strength could be damaging their arteries in this way.

A new study has put their minds at ease. Researchers determined that moderate doses of calcium (and vitamin-D) supplements do not raise women’s coronary artery calcium levels. For this study, the researchers used “cardiac computed tomography” imaging to measure calcium in arteries in 754 women who were aged 50 to 59 at the time. The numbers showed that calcium scores were similar among women who took calcium (1,000 milligrams (mg) a day) plus vitamin D3 (400 international units (IU) daily) for an average of seven years, as well as those who took placebo.

What this means is reassurance that taking moderate supplements of calcium and vitamin D (which are very important nutrients) does not lead to calcium buildup in the arteries. Therefore, women need not avoid these supplements and sacrifice bone health over concerns about such a risk.40 Modern science has shown that higher blood concentrations of Vitamin D have been inversely associated with the development of coronary artery calcification in at least three studies. The ideal plasma levels of D have yet to be determined. However one investigation suggests that a Vitamin D concentration of at least 50 pg/ml may yield the greatest protection.

There are different recommendation about use of calcium and Calcium Supplements. As far as the prevention of kidney stone is concerned, the dietician suggests the prescription about calcium intake according to the physical body of such person. So the calcium intake guidelines are according to the age, gender, size of the body and type od the kidney stone from which a person is suffering.

According to the various medical studies, the calcium that finds in the food like milk, yogurt and cheese defend the body from kidney stone like calcium oxalate. Also medical study on both men and women stated that those person who have higher capacity of taking calcium foods possesses a very lower risk for kidney stones than the person who has little calcium intake in their diet.

Bodybuilding Supplements are: protein, glutamine, prohormones, creatine, tehermogenic products, testosterone boosters. We recommend not to use discount supplements, as they can be of a low quality or out of date, but BSN supplements. It happens also that “discount” is only a marketing gimmick, in a fact prices are the same, or almost the same.

The other factor which you should take into account buying bodybuilding supplements is its quality. It’s particularly important if you take prohormones. Side effects are common, most of these products haven’t been thoroughly studied, the health effects are unknown. From 2004 their purchase in many countries is legal only with a prescription from a doctor. If you buy any discount supplements from unknown manufacturer you take a huge risk to destroy your body. It’s contradictory with the original idea of fitness. Fitness is about health, not about introducing in one’s own veins any substance of a doubtful origin.

The second dangerous supplement apart of prehormones is testosterone. The most obvious side effects are hair loss and acne. But this is not a huge problem yet. Excess use converts testosterone in estrogens. At least two undesirable effects are observed: the first one is called gynecomastia, the second one is testicular atrophy. I’ll talk about the first one in the next post. The testicular atrophy may conduct (and often conducts) to serious problems in the sexual life of everyone who excessively uses testosterone. Are your muscles worth the joy of normal, satisfactory sexual life? You take a decision, it is up to you.
