Any pain that remains for more than three months is considered chronic, however; it does not mean that it could not be treated. A sharp pain which radiates down the leg should be evaluated by the health care provider on an immediate basis, since it could be due to nerve compression. In case of persistent pain, the soft mattress should be used during sleep. A lumber belt could help in maintaining good posture while standing, walking and sitting and hence a person may get much relief by wearing such belts. Painkillers are usually prescribed in these conditions, however; proper evaluation and diagnosis is mandatory before treatment.
