Making your own Velvet Christmas stockings

Doing personalized gifts is priceless. It goes together with your effort, time and devotion to finish one gift and making it look nice and perfect. Velvet Christmas stockings are easy to make if you have all the materials with you. Each stocking, with all the accompanying raw materials, can cost you as much as $15. However, there is a way to reduce the costs. You can buy velvet fabric by the foot, and not by the yard. Besides saving more, you could do more and leave almost no scrap.

The materials you’ll need are the following: two rayon velvet fabric in two colors; your choice design of rubber stamp; iron, dry clean dish towel, old stocking to be used as a pattern, chalk, scissors, straight pens, and a sewing machine, though you could also glue them but sewing home is more durable and not to mention easier.

Have a clean workplace to start with. Lay out the velvet fabric, and fold it in exact half. Using the old velvet Christmas stocking, lay it in the fabric and trace it around with chalk so as to have a pattern for the new one to follow. Cut the new fabric into two identical pieces. After which, use some scrap velvet of another color of about three or more inches and attach them as accent fabric into the cut-out fabric. Since you have two new fabric cut-outs, have two accent fabrics added to it. Then, prepare your iron into a medium setting. Make sure the heat’s just fine for the velvet to stick on.

Place the first stocking face down on your rubber stamp. Put the dishtowel above it, and moisten by spraying water. Then press the iron on it for 15 seconds, and remember to keep it still. Lift it, and see if it’s stuck. Repeat process until desired results deliver. You can now assemble your Christmas stocking by lying them face down either by laying it or front side down, and add one accent piece each on the top of the fabric. Make a hem by folding down a half inch on the top of the accent fabric. Cut off any left threads, and start sewing it from top left to top right. Turn it inside out after and your velvet Christmas stocking is done!
