The Benefits and History of Fraternities

The rich and amazing history of fraternities in the United States can be summed up in one word.  Beneficial.  With the creation of fraternities came the idea where a group of people can be completely equal in society and work toward a mutually beneficial goal.  Ever since the beginning of the twentieth century, frats have been a part of Universities and they have helped people who attend get to the places that they want.  Larger frats these days like alpha chi omega have helped thousands upon thousands of students get jobs, build futures, and make friends for many years.  If you’re at the point in your life where it is possible to join a fraternity, then it would be to your advantage to check out the ones around your campus.               

The benefits of a fraternity are endless.  You can be a part of a brotherhood that not only protects you from failure, but will also enhance your performance in many aspects of your University career.  Because fraternities are difficult to get into, they have earned a bad reputation recently due to the drink abuse and hazing that goes on sometimes.  But there are many different types of frats around campus.  Usually there are three main groups, social, professional, and honorary.  These different types have important distinctions that you have to recognize before making a decision.  A social frat, however, does not mean that they only focus on parties and making friends.  It only means that some aspects of the frat will be social.  Honorary frats will have restrictions based on academic achievement while professional frats will focus more on your career and what you need to succeed out in the real world.  Famous frats like delta gamma will help you out so much during your academic careers.  They will make sure that you are surrounded by people with common goals.  They will keep you focused and they will make your resume look a little better when you are trying to find that dream job outside of college.              

So if you are on the fence about whether to join a fraternity during college, then, hopefully, this has made you lean toward the right direction.  The rich history of fraternities can show you how great it is to become a member of a brotherhood.  It can also set you up for a great future.  Many people leave college with a set of friends that will stay with them forever.  Joining a frat like delta delta delta will mean you already have friends all over the world as well and common ground to stand on with thousands of people.
