Simple Washing Machine Fixes
Having an out-of-order washer when you need it most is the not the most pleasant thing. But you can easily repair it if it’s one of these problems ailing it!
First of all, plug your machine into the socket and turn the switch on if there’s one. Ensure that the socket and the switch are actually working by plugging another appliance in. Then make sure that the fuse at the mains is intact and that the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped.
When all this is okay, check if you have actually turned on your washing machine. Reset it if need be. If it still seems like it won’t work but is making a low hum, it probably means you haven’t turned on the water faucets to feed the machine. Also ensure that all the pipes attached to the machine are elongated without kinks and that the temperature setting is properly adjusted.
Dirt and soap built up in the door may cause the door to not shut. And if the washer’s door is not closed properly, it won’t work. If this is the problem, clean the machine and try working it again. Make sure you always keep it clean.
When the drum does not rotate, the problem could be in the motor, wiring to the motor may be broken, the belt may be broken or it might be as simple as a piece of clothing jammed between the drum and the body. Indeed you can only help it if it’s the last of these causing the problem. If your load is too small or there is only one large piece of clothing, imbalance may cause it not to spin.
Your machine may not be working because it has faulty timers and switches. Clean and tighten the screws on your lid switch. Also tighten the screw on the temperature control and timer. If this doesn’t help, change the switch. If you don’t know which switch is problematic ask an electrician to come over as special tools are needed to test them.
A water control switch can easily be replaced if it is damaged. But hopefully, only the hose has disconnected from the switch, in which case it can be reattached with a push fit after cutting off half an inch of it.
If your machine isn’t draining, check that the drainpipe isn’t clogged. Check that the filter, if it is present, isn’t blocked either and lay your pipe out without any bends. The cause of leaking can be loose gasket, holes in pipes, defects in pump and loose seals. Diagnosing washer problems may be difficult and when more complicated problems occur, its best to call a repairman.
