Emergency lights – exactly as you would imagine
What if we didn’t have emergency lights on police vehicles. Would it save our tax dollars? Would it matter if we didn’t see a vehicle on the road trying to pass us? Do you even notice emergency lights any more? Without emergency lights, our streets would be far more dangerous than they already are.
The scream of a siren, the colored halo of lights as a vehicle speeds down the street is a common sight. Yes all too common. There seem more and more police vehicles on our streets now than at any time before. The flash of emergency lights should be a comfort to us. Instead it’s often more of an irritation. We complain and moan about our streets not being safe. We talk about how we don’t feel safe in our homes, and above all else; we are quick to criticize our law enforcement officers at every opportunity.
Think of how much worse things would be if we didn’t have the number of police on our streets. There would be so many no-go areas we wouldn’t leave the homes we don’t feel safe in! How much more would we have to complain about then! Quite frankly, without the police and the sight of their emergency lights and sirens wailing on our streets, we would be so much worse off. Our police keep our streets and us safe and we shouldn’t forget that, although we often do.
How many of you have complained about something the police have done? How many more of you would be the first to ring them if you felt afraid or in danger in your home or on the street. We really don’t appreciate our police and often forget the danger they place themselves in whilst they are protecting us. One way police can keep themselves safe is with the help of emergency lights. Okay, I admit that sounds a lot to expect of a light but it happens to be true.
Without the emergency lights inside and outside their vehicles, the police would be far more vulnerable to collision on the roads and danger on the streets. Let’s face it flashing emergency lights and sirens can be a comforting sight and sound. Emergency lights come in all shapes, sizes and forms. Lightbars, visor lights, dash lights and hidden lights in taillights are all available and very common in or on police vehicles. The most well known emergency light would be a lightbar on top of a police vehicle, they are bright, flash and hard to ignore.
It often seems that we only ever see police vehicles with the lights flashing and sirens wailing. That of course isn’t true. The lights and siren are only to be used in specific situations, in other words an emergency. The lighting on police vehicles is there to warn of hazard, and inform us that there is a problem somewhere in the vicinity. Emergency lights are not used all of the time, although sometimes you would imagine they are as we see them so often. Any emergency demands certain things and emergency lights are one of them.
