The OCD Test Before The OCD Test
The OCD Test Before The OCD Test
Everyone has times in their life when they allow a fear or worry to grip their thoughts, but for someone with obsessive compulsive disorder or ocd, these thoughts can be all consuming. Sadly, obsessive worry is not the only sign/symptom of ocd. This disorder has many faces and can be extremely debilitating to a sufferer. If someone suspects that he/she may have ocd a mental health professional or physician should be consulted; however, there are some preliminary self ocd tests that can give a general indication.
OCD Self-Test
If someone is wondering whether or not ocd is an issue there are some common signs that should be considered to perform a basic ocd test. Firstly, there can be a fanatical concern about germs, dirt, or contamination. Checking things repeatedly or worrying over matters that are already resolved is another common symptom of ocd. Obsessive washing of oneself or objects that one touches is a frequent sign. Hoarding items because they may be of some use in the future or becoming unnecessarily, emotionally attached to objects can be another form of ocd. Repeatedly asking questions that one has already been given the answer to can also be an indication of obsessive compulsive disorder. In addition, if someone is continually plagued by thoughts of something bad happening, ocd may be the culprit.
Questioning oneself about these issues can serve as an initial ocd test to determine whether or not medical help should be sought out. It is important to note that having any of these problems occur from time to time does not mean that a person is suffering from ocd. There are also varying degrees of ocd. Some sufferers are completely paralyzed by these fears while others have much milder symptoms. Some have a wide range of struggles and others may only suffer with one or two of the issues. Usually an ocd sufferer will be fully aware that his/her actions or thoughts are completely irrational, yet will feel powerless to stop them.
Once the help of a medical professional has been sought, another round of questions is likely to follow. Ocd is not the type of condition that can be discovered with a scan or a blood test. Doctors must use descriptions from patients and answers to questions to determine whether or not a patient is suffering from ocd. In the end, there is no definitive ocd test, but there are still many qualified professionals available to make an informed diagnosis.
