electronics and gadgets

As you sit back at home looking around you your surrounded by gadgets and electronics for all purposes, from a kettle to heat your water for a tea, to your IPod to listen to your tunes. But did you ever stop to wonder what happens after its life. That novelty electronic dancing clock that yells for you to wake up every morning what would become of it in the end.
Just as you thought crime could sink no longer it has been reported that electrical goods are being disguised as in working order so that they can be sent off abroad to be stripped down to use for parts. Last year’s present you bought Dad could be on its way to Africa after you threw it out cause it lost its novelty.
Containers have been found on numerous occasions containing electronics which has been sorted and ready for shipment illegally to Africa. Of which is beyond repair. We have a simple and straight forward law that all electrical goods must be recycled in the UK not sent abroad to the less developed. Africa’s version of dismantle puts human health and the environment at risk. Next time your shopping for your gift and it’s an electrical item, take a moment to think about the sort of dangerous that may be involved in dismantling it. Huge amounts are making its way to Europe, doing more harm than good.
Sample of the dangerous that lie in dismantle of items that children see as toys and gadgets are:
Chips are removed from circuit boards by heating them over open fires which in turn gives off toxic fumes in the process. Children are digging out carbon black from toner cartridges, Shame on us
When dismantling electrical items they can also be dipped into acid baths which takes place by the sides of ditches and rivers. Which leaks toxic chemicals into the environment. Children have been found with chemical inside their bodies.

Broken electrical goods and gizmos are stamped with a label giving it the go ahead to be recycled abroad while the truth of the matter is it will be used for parts. To hide these items containers and any other packages are well hidden which put off officials trying to reach them. It’s a deliberate act of law breaking, a selfish act.

As more and more presents are bought sat navs upgrades, ipods, mobile phones advance, so we are throwing away the less useable items; causing us on average 900,000 tonnes of electronics wastage. But the mystifying thing is we only see a third of it. The government had set up compliance schemes 40 of them but now it’s being held back by these criminals. The schemes work by buying waste and recycling it on behalf of the company. Take a look at the mobile industry. Perfect sample of the recycling scheme. It is not just business; the general public is also at fault – only 20% of our mobile phones, 14% of our TVs, 10% of our computers and 9% of our toasters and vacuum cleaners make it to the dump.
While other household items such as electric racing cars, battery-operated watches, electronic toys, hi-tech gadgets and gizmos are rarely recycled, most items end up being thrown out with the household rubbish, where it leaches into the UK’s environment.
Think before you act and help save the environment now
