Godwin’s A Sorrowful Woman, Crane’s The Bride Comes To Yellow Sky
Many authors seem to relate there real lives in the stories and the books that they write. It has been observed in the case of many authors and especially in the case of female writers as Gail Godwin. Adventures and vivid images have always been the part of writings of Stephen Crane.
Gail Godwin is the female writer who began writing in the time of women’s liberation and the era was the one that has been an inspiration for the author. All the writing that she has given the readers focuses on the women’s liberation and empowerment. She has been the author who has discussed marriage as an issue in almost of her books and literary pieces (Sternburg 10).
It has been studied on a personal level, that her marriage was itself a nuisance. It has been noticed from her works that she has always felt that women are not to be dealt as objects to be locked to look after the kids and husband right after the marriage as her own marriages were short lived (Hill 10). There are many books written by her that reflect the ideology that the women are not just made and built for taking care of the kids and the husband. one of the books that illustrate the same fact is “A Sorrowful Woman” (Godwin 25).
This is the book that reflects the fact that she, being the married woman, a mother to the kids, tries to satisfy the kids and the husband in all aspects and for this one purpose she tries different approaches. In the general case it has been seen that the marriage can change the lives for the people in a positive way, as by having kids and responsibilities as a husband or a wife, but in many cases it has been argued that the case is not the same. A general thought that is associated with the marriage is that the feeling of completeness and happiness are always accompanied in any marriage (Godwin 50).
“A Sorrowful Woman” is a story that has been written in a way that predicts and reflects the life of a perfect young lady who is happy with her normal unmarried life and is passing her life rather delightfully gaining all the positivity that comes along her way. Godwin has written the story in a way that exactly reflects her life before marriage and then after marriage (Mickelson 25).
The book has been written to show the life of a woman when she is young and is happily independent with a few responsibilities and is yet enjoying her life all the way. There are many ideas in relation to life after marriage that it is all glowing and charming, the happy yet independent woman undergoes marriage. This is the scenario in which the woman has to take care of a husband as well as kids and by this; she is pragmatically locked in the house as an object to deal with these responsibilities (Godwin 57).
The young married lady who has been portrayed in the story is not satisfied with the situation as she has been confined with the two main responsibilities, her husband and her kids.
