How to Deal with Love Handles

When a person grows a bit of flesh in their stomach, either just beneath the chest or lower near their naval, it can make a person feel down on him or herself. Not only do these pieces of flesh, or love handles as they are commonly called, make people self-conscious but they can also alter how clothing fits. No matter how much a person works out or starves him or herself, some love handles may not go away. This doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get rid of them but that people often go about it in unhealthy ways. To get rid of these soft pieces of fat, a person needs to live a healthy lifestyle. The following are some foolproof ways to get rid of love handles.

Know Your Habits

The first step is to keep a food and exercise diary for a week. If you know what your day to day activities are like and what you are putting in your body and when, you can then break old habits. This is a time to do everything as normal: no dieting should yet take place. This research will help a person learn how to alter their lifestyle, and this in turn will help a person get rid of their love handles.

Be Smart with Food

Many people think that losing love handles means that they have to stop eating. This is a common misconception. When a person starves themselves or eliminates a major food group, their body will start to panic. When this happens, the body will turn muscle to fat. This makes losing pesky love handles that much more difficult.

Instead of eliminating food, a person needs to be smart about the kinds of foods they are consuming. Guilty pleasures should be indulged in from time to time, and food should be regular and moderated. For example, a person should eat three square meals a day and should carry snacks so that they are never hungry for long. This not only improves the body’s overall health but helps the body build muscle and to maintain its weight. Thus, love handles will soon be reduced or even eliminated.

Keep Work Outs Balanced

If you want to rid yourself of love handles, you also need to keep up an active lifestyle. This does no mean doing thousands of crunches or sit ups. Instead, it means working out the whole body on a near daily basis. If a person maintains their level of exercise and focuses on all-around fitness, the body will grow accustomed to building muscle. This in turn will help smooth out the stomach area and will eliminate signs of love handles.
