Communication Differences Between Men And Women
Through the process of communication, anyone could give and receive information; however, it is a complicated process. People communicate with feelings and it can be observed through their gestures, words, body language, tone, and voice. It is important to know all the factors that could work on with the communication. There are times that it is difficult to express ones feelings and by sharpening the observation skills, it could be easier to understand any people. Listening is even more important than talking; it is always necessary to allow the person to speak in order to express his thoughts and feelings without interrupting. In listening to someone, it is important to pay close attention to what is being said and if appropriate it would be better to make eye contact. In a situation when there is an intense emotion, it is helpful if the listener restates what he thought was said. Male and female have different communication styles and this can be observed since the beginning of time. In research studies, men and women speak different languages and this concept was supported by the idea about heredity and environment.
Language differences are brought by genetic makeup. Male and female babies have different brain development at different rates and their language differences are caused by their social experiences. Males and females also have different expectations and these differences are brought by their genetic differences and learning experiences that could directly affect the communication pattern. However, there are always exceptions such as boys and men are more aggressive, independent and objective and women or girls are more submissive, subjective, and dependent. Normally, men talk much on the information of a report and they rather talk about sports, business, or food rather than people. It only shows that men are more goal-oriented and they give much emphasis on the solution of a problem and less likely to ask help to anyone. On the other hand, women have the tendency to talk in order to get all the information they want and they are trying to connect to gain rapport. Women rather talk about other people than talking with other things. In the communication made by women, they convey more about their feelings. Women are said to be relationship oriented and most of the time they are quick in asking help or assistance from others around them. Generally, men always compete while women usually cooperate. The differences between male and female can create conflicts socially and emotionally. It is always necessary for male and female to have respect and understanding about their differences.
In work place, there is no much difference but communication is structured. Effective communication in work place is achieved by establishing good channels of information flow therefore differences between men and women are reduced.
