It began last year when Sears launched their Christmas stores in July and caught all kinds of media attention as “Black Friday” events hit the ads the Saturday after Halloween. This year has been only crazier. Best Buy, Target, Kmart, Toys R Us and other big box retailers have already had Black Friday-like events this year — and promise lots more before Black Friday actually arrives. What does it all mean? Are the deals really that hot?moncler outlet Should I buy now — or will the deals get even better? It is time to face facts: we’re in a recession, sales are horrible and retailers are desperate. How so? Take a look at the decisions being made. Earlier this week Sears announced that for the first time in their 124-year history they will be open on Thanksgiving. That isn’t as desperate as it sounds as Sears a few years back merged with Kmart in a marriage of perennial retailer losers and Kmart broke ground on Thanksgiving sales years ago. Still, it is a pathetic statement of how bad they want/need sales.Just today, Walmart announced free shipping from November 10th through December 20th with all online purchases, a move that sends shockwaves across the etailing establishment. Walmart is the bellwhether of Christmas sales — as Walmart goes, so goes just about everyone else. Two months ago Walmart’s CEO said it would be a “socks and underwear” type Christmas. What more does Walmart have to do to tell you what things are like out there? And what about the deals themselves? They’re shallow, folks. They advertise hot prices on some items but don’t actually have many to sell. Some are last year’s models, especially with electronics So far the pre-Thanksgiving deals aren’t convincing anyone. Sales are tepid at Walmart, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble and other retailers. Try as they might, folks just aren’t coming in. It is, after all, a tad early and if there is one thing to be counted own during a recession it is that folks buy late, if they buy at all.Our advice: wait. Or, better yet, learn to bargain. Especially on big ticket items. And do your homework: flat screen TVs have plummetted in prices as inventory gluts have developed. Make an offer — they just make take it.That is how desparate they are for sales. Are there hot items out there? Yep, in the form of iPads, smartphones, Microsoft’s Kinnect and the new Call of Duty Black Ops video game. If you can find those now, snap them. They won’t be around much after Black Friday.
