Businesses Could Profit In The Long Run From Having Surveillance Equipment

Imagine that you are a business owner that has just been robbed at gun point and your store has no surveillance equipment. The gun man takes all of your money from your cash drawer, runs out the door and drives away. This all happens before the police can be called to respond to assist you.

Now, imagine that you are the same business owner, but you have a surveillance system inside your store. The gun man walks into the store, looks around and notices all of the cameras. Now that the gun man knows he is going to be seen on a recording. He Will probably need to think twice before he tries to commit a crime.

By having a security system, the crime may be prevented, but what if the criminal decides to commit the act anyway? Well, now the police will have a resource to better identify the criminal and his patterns. Even if the criminal gets away at this time, his appearance is now permanently on your records.

Now as a business owner, one of the biggest issues is workers compensation reports. An employee comes to a manager stating that they were just walking in the back of the store and without warning a box fell hitting them on the head. There is no obvious reason for why the box fell, but there are no witnesses around to dispute the claim. In this type of situation, the business may have to pay for the medical treatment and anytime taken off for the employee to recover from the injuries.

All too often, workers compensation claims are found to be lies. What if this employee was actually walking through an area that was clearly marked as a work area because on the other side of the isle, there was a forklift moving boxes on the shelves over his/her head. When reviewing the camera footage, you would be able to see that all safety precautions were taken and that the employee was in violation of a safety policy.

Another major issue for businesses is internal theft made by employees. If an employee is allowed to take items off the shelf and not pay for the items, then they are stealing from you just like a criminal from the street. Most employees can figure out where the security cameras are located and not located at after working at a business for only a short time. This allows them to figure out ways around them so they can take what they want.

What the employee does not know in this previous example is that there are hidden cameras in the business that are not known about. When employees steal, it can affect the business more than the criminal coming in to take a couple of items because the employee is there everyday and can get away with more items. With the hidden cameras, the business has now caught a problem a lot sooner because the employee thought they could get away with the crime by hiding in the areas where the visible cameras cannot see.

A business job is to make money and not to lose money. So even though it may cost some money to get surveillance equipment, it could end up saving a business money in the long run by preventing theft, workers compensation claims and internal issues.
