Get Back the Holiday Spirit with these Decor Tips
The Yuletide season always makes me feel like I am enveloped in not just the anticipation of the coming days but also the delightful activities of all Christmases past. The world seems sweeter, individuals friendlier and attitudes are brighter. To translate the festive feeling in our hearts thru colors and designs in our houses is like a compulsion we cannot halt. Instead of following to the letter designing ideas we have been applying since we were young let us try out new ideas to help build new memories. Although we could just go to the shopping center, or purchase a selection of quality home decor online, there is also a lot we can do without spending any money.
A fantastic kick off point with this adventure is the front door. Doors and wreaths since I was a little one always came hand in hand once the season started. The only difference the wreaths would have from year to year is the combination of frills, pinecones and flowers on it. Instead of a wreath why not try garlands. The garland need not be long, just drape it from the upper edges of the threshold so it frames the upper part of the door. Do not be concerned that the whole door is not totally defined less is more. Another good idea would be to decorate it like a Christmas tree with ribbons and tinsel, thus giving the feeling that behind the door more excitement await. Alternatively, because we used the garland to embellish the door its traditional spot at the mantle can now be spruced up in another way. A good idea will be to place various candles on it. Buying candles that have a Christmas theme is something our family has been doing for a while. Candles elaborately shaped just like trees or just those simple ones in the Christmas colors of red and green will work nicely. You have the choice of arranging them in different ways, by size, theme color etc., you may also mix in fresh flowers to brighten it up. The candles should be in attractive colors so that the mantle will come alive, cranberry, red and green are great options.
Christmas tassels are not only for curtains we can also hang them on door knobs, at the end of tables, desks or drawers. These accents are noticed as soon as a visitor enters a room. What I like about tassles is that it adds a little color and decadence to a room, not too much, just sufficient to make it interesting. We also need not purchase new things or Christmas specific accessories just to make our homes ready for the holidays. An accessory such as a vase, bowl or bottle that have colors associated with the season like gold, green or red can be used as decorations on center or side tables. Now that we are discussing table ware, during daily family dinners this season you can still put a little Christmas by using accent colors to help to make the table look fun. Don’t go overboard and purchase green or red dinner plates just one or two items will do like the bowl that holds the main dish or table napkins. If you want to go overboard, decide which Christmas recipes you’re going to be preparing on Christmas day, determine the colors involved, and select table decor which is matching the colors present in the meal.
During the holidays our family generally set aside time for gift wrapping. This year do not hold back using the frills and wrapping paper. Think about wrapping the gift to appear like it is overflowing with love. Let the person you are gifting feel that the gift is not just the box but also how you spent time to wrap the gift.
