With the increase in the number of natural disasters and the worsening of the economic situation, it is recommended that people must understand what survival preparedness is all about and how to use the same in a difficult situation. Even while going to an outdoor adventure, it is recommended to have proper gear for managing a difficult situation. Survival preparedness is nothing but a preparation to deal with a difficult situation that might happen to anyone any time. Examples of a difficult situation include – an earthquake, a famine, an epidemic, a flood, a shortage of food, an eruption of a volcano, etc. The motive of survival preparedness is not to make people fearful of the sword hanging on their head which can fall anytime without any notification but to make them prepared to deal with it, if at all it happens to them. Survival preparedness involves understanding and obtaining through knowledge of how to act in such a situation and to practice it, so that it comes easily to you when required.
The basic understanding that everyone must develop is to use the available resources wisely to extract the best out of the same and to be extremely careful and keep your senses open. Though, such things are difficult to explain and teach to others, self-practice can be really beneficial. Survival preparedness also involves keeping a survival kit that contains items that can be useful in a disaster situation. Some of the examples of what is included in the same are: – lighting a fire without match sticks, how to purify sea water in case of shortage of drinking water, how to use a compass, how to let others know that you need help, how to make proper utilization of small resources available, the first step that must be taken in a difficult situation, using presence of mind to help yourself and others, etc. The course also explains which survival kit will be beneficial in which situation and what are the necessary items in the same.
It is true that whatever precautions you take or whatever preparations you make to avoid or deal with an unpleasant situation, there will always be factors beyond your control. However, one must understand from the deepest corner of his/her mind that there is no harm in gaining knowledge and being prepared. It might happen, that preparation and precaution does not prove to be of any help, but it will never happen that you are harmed because of preparation and precaution. Thus it is recommended to be prepared and active all the time.
