Lovers of the recent trend toward larger watches
replica Audemars Piguet watches
The core focus of the Hasler & Co. mechanical watchmaking tradition is alive and well in the Davosa line. I’ve had the opportunity to spend some time auditioning one of its pieces: a handsome pilot-style automatic chronograph, reference 161.432.56. This particular Davosa chronograph is equipped with a Valjoux 7750 movement that is modestly decorated and visible via the exhibition caseback. The 7750 is a self-winding, 25-jewel movement that operates with a 44-hour power reserve and is protected with Incabloc shock protection. That Davosa can equip this watch with the legendary Valjoux 7750 at less than $995 is simply amazing—a rare find indeed. A sapphire crystal front and back, and a stainless steel case that is water-resistant to 50 meters ensures that the watch is as durable as it is attractive.
Lovers of the recent trend toward larger watches will really appreciate this particular model. At just under 44mm in diameter, with a height of 14.5mm, this watch has an impressive presence on the wrist. The simple and understated contrast of the black dial with white hands and markers provides excellent legibility. The luminous coating on the hands and markers produce excellent nighttime visibility as well. I was particularly impressed by the luminous qualities of this watch—it’s an area that many watch companies will skimp on to cut costs. Not so with Davosa.
The black calfskin leather strap with white stitching is an excellent complement to the watch. It is well padded for comfort and supple to the touch. The light weight of the strap helps offset the impressive heft of the watch itself. A Davosa-signed stainless steel buckle is included with the strap. While this buckle is both attractive and functional, I feel a deployment style clasp would be an even better choice to add both convenience and life to this gorgeous strap. According to the Davosa website listing for this particular model, a bracelet option is also available.
The quality of fit and finish in this watch is truly exceptional—as good as watches costing many more times the Davosa asking price. The Valjoux 7750 hand winds smoothly when the amply sized and easily gripped crown is extended, and the subdial counters are activated precisely via the smooth pushers on the right side of the crown. The hands on both the main dial and subdials line up precisely with their respective markers. As one might expect, the Valjoux 7750 movement in this model proved to be quite accurate, with an out-of-the- box variance of +4 seconds observed over a 24-hour period.
Overall I’m extremely impressed with the reference 161.432.56 chronograph. It’s a remarkable timepiece with a bargain price. While the Davosa name lacks the recognition of other, more prestigious manufacturers, it is capable of producing a timepiece of comparable quality at extremely competitive prices.
