How to Get Your Child to Sleep Well
Are your kids having trouble sleeping at night? The amount of sleep a child gets can depend on many factors. Stress as well as serotonin levels can be directly related to sleep patterns. According to recent studies, going to bed early shows a direct relationship with enhanced learning abilities – kids who get enough sleep tend to do a lot better in school and have a more efficient memory.
There are several things you can do to help improve your kids quality of sleep. First of all make sure they don’t consume any caffeine (this includes tea , soft drinks or energy drinks) after 5 PM.
Because the human body requires a few hours to slow down, you kids should be avoiding any forms of vigorous exercise at least a couple of hours before their bedtime.
Sleep cycles tend to come in waves. If your kids feel tired but don’t go to bed when they do, they might miss their particular sleep cycle and find it harder to fall asleep later on. So get them straight to bed as soon as their tiredness comes around.
It is also a good idea not to have a television in the kids bedroom. TV sets and mobile phones can be distracting and makes sleep that much more difficult.
During sleep, it is important that your children do not get overheated in bed. Keeping the body temperature cool is the key to getting a good night’s rest. If your kids are complaining that it’s hot, check to make sure their blankets or quilts are suited to the particular season of the year. Pajamas should be made of soft and airy cotton for maximum breathability.
Finally, understand that children as well as adults require the same hours of sleep per night. These hours do not get accumulated for use later on. For example, if your child overslept last night, it does not mean that they can deal with less sleep tonight. It just doesn’t work that way.
