American Ratification
Gender stratification
This is discrimination in terms of either one is a man or a woman, it is unequal access to things like property power and prestige. In united state this is common in all social classes and all aspect of social life. It is mainly found in the lower social strata. You will find that in terms of earning women are known to earn less than the men. Though Esping argues that as the economy continues to grow this would disappear, this type of discrimination continues to increase (Esping, 17).
In some case you will find women earning less even if they are equally qualified like their men counter parts. It should be noted that whatever someone does is what contribute to his or her economic status. This type of social stratification has a very big impact to the family as a whole. Consider a cases where the woman is a bread winner, this will make them live in a poor status. As an individual it will also have an impact on me since I may need to depend on the gender facing discrimination. The gender discrimination will continue to exist if no action is taken to stop the discrimination among women. The united state rules have been put in place to fight for the right of women. This though has not succeeded due to the people mentality and believes (Yossi et al, 321).
Housing stratification
In most metropolitan areas in U.S.A the type of housing that an individual can have depend on the income he has and the race he is from. According to united state census it showed 17 percent of household living in central cities earned an income that is below the poverty level. This is contrary to the suburban residents where it is only a 3 percentage (Anderson et al, 230). Due to the economical segregation people are forced to live in the housing that they can afford. It has been proved that the blacks form the most population of those living in poverty concentrated areas.
This stratification has increased due to the local government regulation combined with the feudal regulations to support the housing programs. The market condition is one other discriminatory factor that has resulted to housing problems and establishment of slums also known as ghettos. The housing stratification has greatly contributed to the concept of racialism and segregation by the level of income (Anderson et al, 225). This has also results to the increasing rate of crime in poor condition housing facilities. It has also led to congestion in the urban areas.. Regulations carried out by the local authority to increase the cost of housing to regulate the use of land will affect the way of life of the family in case they are not able to pay the increased cost.
Stratification in education
This is a form of social stratification that is common in united state. The post secondary education is the most affected by this type of stratification in general.
