The painting is 5×4 feet and depicts Marie-Therese Walter who is Picasso’s mistress laying down and as a sculptured bust. The painting was kept by the French philanthropist Frances Lasker Brody who died in November 2009. This most expensive painting in the world only takes picasso one fine day in March 1932.
The 2 most expensive Picasso painting is called Garcon a la Pipe (Boy with a Pipe). It sold for $104.2 million in 2004. This painting depicts a young boy holding a pipe in his left hand surrounded by a garland of flowers. It was painted in 1905 d when he was 24 years old.
The 3rd most expensive Picasso painting is Dora Maar au Chat (Dora Maar with a cat) and it is sold for $95.2 million in 2006. Dora Maar is Picasso’s lover, she was a French photographer, painter, and poet. The painting duoucts Dora seated in a chair with a cat perched on her shoulders and an amusing/angry look on her face.
The 4th most expensive Picasso painting is Les Noces de Pierrette (The Marriage of Pierrette). It is sold for $49.3 million in 1989. It shows 6 people around a table with the dominant blue color giving it a bit of a depressing tone for a marriage painting. This painting was painted in 1905 while Picasso was still depressed for his friend’s suicide in 1901.
5th on the list is a self-portrait of Picasso which sold for $47.9 million in 1989.
