Philadelphia Apartment Review
I’ve recently been doing a lot of looking for a Philadelphia apartment, since I’m over 2 years out of college and just itching to get out of my parents’ house! I live in the suburbs right now, but have finally found a place in the city. So in this post, I’d like to share with you my experiences while searching for the right Philadelphia apartment.
It obviously started with my strong desire to get out of my parents’ house. It was really weird going from living on my own throughout college for 4 years and having complete freedom, to living back at home and still having a curfew. I could only take so much of that, and I was making a good amount of money at my job and had a lot saved, so I started looking everywhere I could for a Philadelphia apartment – online, the Apartment Guide, friends and family. I finally found the place of dreams right on Craigslist. It’s a nice one-bedroom, one-bath dwelling right in the Old City section of town.
One thing I would definitely recommend when looking for a place in the city is to make sure you check the place out in person before committing to it. If I would’ve signed a lease to some of the places that I saw, I would be totally screwed right now and living in basically, well, trash.
Another recommendation I would make is that you find a Philadelphia apartment that you can actually afford. Don’t waste your time looking for a place that you can’t afford. I spent a lot of my time looking at some upscale apartments, knowing that I wouldn’t be able to afford them. Still I looked at those places anyway, but ended up wasting a lot of time when I could’ve been looking for places that I would actually be able to pay for. And PLEASE don’t actually sign the lease for an apartment that you can’t afford, because then you will probably default on your rent payments and end up living back at home with your parents anyway.
I will say, though, that the one major benefit of living at home with your parents is that you can save a ton of money in rent. The major drawback, though, is that you will sacrifice that savings with loss of privacy.
I hope some of these experiences that I’ve shared will help you in your search for the best Philadelphia apartment for your needs.
