Our editors select the top 6 events in London every week. It includes a mix of leisure categories such as film, theatre, art, comedy, festivals, children’s events and more.

The top film this week is Wall Street.  Emerging from a lengthy prison stint, Gordon Gekko finds himself on the outside of a world he once dominated. Looking to repair his damaged relationship with his daughter Winnie, Gekko forms an alliance with her fiancé Jacob (Shia LaBeouf). The question is whether Jacob and Winnie can really trust the ex-financial crook, whose relentless efforts to redefine himself in a different era have unexpected consequences.

In Art: Treasures from Budapest: European Masterpieces from Leonardo to Schiele at the Royal Academy of Arts. It’s an exhibition of works which showcase the breadth and wealth of works at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. The exhibition features over 200 works and includes paintings, drawings and sculpture from the early Renaissance to the 20th Century.

We also have the exhibition Minne Fry: Recent Works taking place at Coningsby Gallery. Minne Fry began using watercolours in the 1980s before studying printmaking at Morley College. Her semi-abstract landscapes are the very definition of what the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins referred to as ‘inscapes’; emotional responses that, although derived from external reality, steer clear of the direct depiction of the traditional landscape.

In comedy: Chris Addison makes a welcome return to stand-up comedy. Expect daftness, whimsical, jokes and plenty of flapping about from Chris as he rants about his frustrations at middle-class life.
See Chris Addison at The Bloomsbury Theatre, 13th October 2010, 08.00pm.

We also have Flashdance – The Musical on this week at Shaftesbury Theatre in London. It’s based on the infamous 1983 Paramount Pictures film.

In Music: Nils Lofgren at Cadogan Hall on 15th October 2010, from 7.30 pm. He’s best known as a virtuoso guitarist with Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band.

In film:  The Times BFI 54th London Film Festival. As always, the festival offers a broad selection of top class work from all categories of film. From documentary and animation to experimental and commercial flicks, the capital’s silver screens are rarely graced with such a diverse range of genres.
Don’t miss it: 13th – 28th Oct 2010, BFI Southbank.
